Packing and Seal Life

We spent two years optimizing material and process parameters to yield the densest, hardest ceramic on the market yet. Surface finish geometry plays a major roll in seal life and effectiveness. Seal wear often becomes the primary reason to pull a unit or shaft for repair or replacement costing needless time and effort.

Application Example: Large Food Processing Mixer Shaft

The Problem: 10,000 RPM shaft speed = Excessive Seal Wear...60-100 hours Life. Several attempts including Nitronic ,17-4 stainless steel and other sleeve materials were tested.

The Solution: MBL 70+ Rc Ceramic Coating Deposition showed no
measurable wear
 after 400 hours and has been running for 2 years.

Result: All U.S. plants converted to MBL Ceramic over a 2 year period.


Customer Mission: To cost effectively increase the life of boiler tubing. The coating acts as a sacrificial protection to maintain tube wall thickness. Costly boiler re-tubing is avoided or minimized.

Life of previous supplier's field applied coating was one year or less. Quality was inconsistent and so were the results.

The Solution: MBL engineered a material and process to yield a two year life between re-coating. We now see another opportunity of again doubling the life over our current, superior solution. Education and communication were the keys to appropriate application and superior results.

Building on Success: MBL has since worked in-field at several plants nationwide and has provided coatings in our facility for re-tubing life enhancement. MBL has also optimized coatings to meet specific boiler tube protection needs for numerous other facilities.
